Harry Winks: Club plan to activate Tottenham star’s signing clause
Sampdoria want to keep on-loan Tottenham ace Harry Winks at the club permanently and plan to trigger their option to buy, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed that the Italian outfit can keep the 27-year-old at the club by paying Tottenham around £22million – a fee agreed in the original loan agreement.
However, sources close to Winks have revealed that he is not yet 100% sold on staying at Sampdoria.
He is likely to evaluate all of his options ahead of a final decision in the off-season.
Winks, who had been a part of the Tottenham first team since making his debut in 2014, joined Sampdoria on a season-long loan last summer (2022).
He has turned out 11 times for Dejan Stanković’s side with an ankle injury keeping him out of the first half of this season.
The 11-cap England international will have 12 months left to run on his Tottenham contract in June.
As per FBRef, the 27-year-old earns a wage of £50,000-a-week at Spurs.
Winks managed 30 appearances across all competitions for his boyhood club in the 2021-22 campaign – but was not a regular starter in the Premier League.
The arrival of Rodrigo Bentancur in January 2022 limited the Englishman to a handful of substitute appearances in the second half of the season.
