‘It will be financially amazing for Newcastle’ – Pundit reacts to source’s Miguel Almiron reveal

Miguel Almiron’s sale would be financially “amazing” for Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Aston Villa and Rangers defender Alan Hutton claimed it would not benefit Eddie Howe to lose a player in the Magpies’ thin squad, but suggested his sale could be crucial for their FFP obligations.

As revealed by Football Insider (23 January), the forward has agreed to a “huge” offer to join Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab this month, but the clubs are yet to agree on a fee.

The deal is expected to go through this month with Almiron not in Newcastle’s long-term plans.

Hutton admitted he feared that selling too many players, including reported targets Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier, could impact the Magpies’ long-term goals, but understood the sale of the ageing Paraguay international.

“I think financially for Newcastle, it will be an amazing move,” he told Football Insider.

“We speak about the Financial Fair Play rules, and it looks like Newcastle are going to have to sell before they bring somebody new in.

“I just think, when you’re looking at Kieran Trippier, Jamaal Lascelles, Callum Wilson, I’ve heard whispers as well about all of these players being sold.

“They’re trying to build for the future, but they’re potentially selling some of their best players – it’s not good.

“Almiron will be an interesting one because he’s 29 now, so you can understand why they’d sell him.

“But from Eddie Howe’s view, it’s not ideal losing key players in the squad.”
