Jobe Bellingham posts ‘unforgettable’ Sunderland message

Sunderland have certainly been busy since they sold Jobe Bellingham following their promotion to the Premier League.

The Black Cats sealed promotion in dramatic circumstances at Wembley thanks to Tommy Watson‘s last minute winner, and have wasted no time in replacing the winger after his £10million move to Brighton.

Regis Le Bris lost another key cog of his play-off winning side when Borussia Dortmund paid over £27m to sign Bellingham ahead of the Club World Cup, and the 19-year-old’s stock has risen even further.

Sunderland didn’t wait long to fill the gaps left by Watson and Bellingham with the signings of Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki and Chemsdine Talbi already confirmed, and many more arrivals in the pipeline.

Bellingham reflects on ‘unforgettable’ season after Sunderland exit

Sunderland fans are yet to witness Diarra and Sadiki sporting their colours ahead of the new season, but Dortmund fans have already seen plenty of Bellingham in black and yellow during the Club World Cup.

Bellingham’s debut against Fluminense was quickly followed up by his first goal for Dortmund just 45 minutes into his first start against Mamelodi Sundowns, a goal expected to be the first of many.

The teenager has followed in the footsteps of his older brother Jude Bellingham either side of winning promotion with Sunderland, and Jobe posted on Instagram (9 July) to reflect on the last 12 months.

In a heartfelt post on his story which featured an image of his last match in a Sunderland shirt at Wembley, Bellingham said: “2024/25 Finished. Two great clubs, one unforgettable season.”

Sunderland spending to continue as Bellingham sets the example

Football Insider Verdict

Although Jude Bellingham‘s journey from Birmingham to Real Madrid saw Dortmund take a punt on a then 16-year-old midfielder, his younger brother Jobe has had to fight his way to the top by comparison.

Bellingham won the Championship’s Young Player of the Year award as he helped lead the Black Cats to promotion, and Sunderland must use his development as an example to their summer transfer targets.

Diarra, Sadiki and Talbi are three more players whose development and price-tags could sky-rocket at the Stadium of Light over the next two seasons, and Bellingham could become the forerunner to several big names at Sunderland.
