‘It doesn’t come easy’ – John makes suggestion about Rangers squad

By James Black

Rangers defender Declan John has admitted he was “gutted” to miss out on last weekend’s Old Firm clash with Celtic and has also suggested that the club needs more time to settle down after a frenetic summer.

John joined Rangers on loan from Cardiff City on deadline day and made his debut against Partick Thistle, replacing the injured Lee Wallace, before succumbing to injury himself.

The Welshman was blown away by the atmosphere at Ibrox and is eager to face the Hoops when the sides meet again on December 30th.

“I was doing quite well so to pick up the injury didn’t really help and to miss that massive game against Celtic wasn’t good for me, but we’ll play against them again later in the season.” John said, as quoted by the Daily Record website.

“I was really gutted to miss the game against Celtic. I’ve been back training and hoping to be fit for Friday.

“The atmosphere, especially the first 20 minutes was incredible really.

“I haven’t really been involved in a game with an atmosphere like that, so I would definitely liked to have featured.”

John has impressed Rangers fans so far in his limited appearances with his willingness to get forward in support of attackers.

Despite the club’s poor start to the season, John is confident the Gers have a squad capable of turning things around quickly. He added: “I think in anything it takes time, it doesn’t come easy and straightforward.

“It will take time but we have a good group of boys here.

“It is such a massive club and especially with the fans – you’re expected to win every game and we expect to win every game as well.

“Like I said, some of the results haven’t gone our way.”

The 22-year-old has two caps for Wales and a run of good performances for the Gers could see him earn a recall to Chris Coleman’s squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

With Lee Wallace out for the next 6-8 weeks, John is expected to return to the Rangers starting XI for Friday night’s trip to Hamilton in the Scottish Premiership as they look to bounce back from the loss to Celtic.
