Leeds fans react to Paudie O’Connor debut v Sunderland

Paul Heckingbottom followed through on his promise to bring more youth players into the Leeds side when he gave a senior debut to Under-23 centre-back Paudie O’Connor against Sunderland on Saturday.

The 20-year-old has impressed for the Under-23s and got the chance to shine today in front of the crowd at Elland Road.

It wasn’t a vintage performance from Leeds though and after 15 minutes both sets of fans were signing about how bad they were.

That must have been tough for O’Connor but he put in a solid display as he bids to show Heckingbottom that he deserves to be with the senior side.

And fans were pleased with what they saw from the 20-year-old, with one saying that he must be pinching himself at how quickly he’s progressed since playing for Limerick.

Sunderland took the lead early on in the second half to make things even worse for the loyal home fans, but Pablo Hernandez scored to take a share of the spoils.
