Adam Lallana is set to put pen to paper on a new contract with Liverpool, according to a reliable journalist.

The Times northern correspondent Paul Joyce revealed on his personal Twitter account that Lallana was closing in on a new deal with Jurgen Klopp’s Merseyside giants.

The 28-year-old star currently has more than two years remaining on his current Anfield deal, but is set to sign a new deal to put rumours over his future to bed.

The Express has claimed that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was keen on reuniting with Lallana after first working together at Southampton, before he joined Liverpool.

However, the report also claimed that the Reds were set to offer Lallana a new four-year deal that will see him receive £120,000 a week and that could now become true.

The 28-time England international has been in wonderful form for both club and country this season, providing a creative spark that has helped Liverpool mount a title challenge.

Having a hand in 14 goals for Klopp’s Liverpool this term, Lallana has scored seven goals as well as providing seven assists while scoring three goals for England during 2016.

Since his move to Anfield, Liverpool’s number 20 has made a total of 116 league and cup appearances in red, and is now expected to increase that number significantly as he looks set to sign a new deal.

Football Insider verdict:

Lallana has been in magnificent form this season for Liverpool, as his form in the final third continues to inspire the Reds. With doubts over his future at Anfield, tying arguably Liverpool’s most creative player is crucial to both their chance this season as well as the future successes of Klopp’s tenure in Merseyside. Keeping him at Liverpool could mean that Marko Grujic and Ovie Ejaria are forced to move out on loan to gain regular first-team football, with attacking midfielder now set to stay for a longer period. Klopp will now be hoping Lallana can continue his fantastic form by turning Liverpool’s recent form around and gaining a place back in the Champions League slots.

In other Liverpool news, this 25-year-old will not be joining the Reds after signing a new contract with a German side.
