Man United think fans are ‘so stupid’ after PSR breach claim – finance expert

Man United have been slammed by football finance expert Stefan Borson for a message sent to their supporters over the club’s PSR situation.

The Red Devils have implemented a number of cost-cutting issues since Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS took control of the club on a day-to-day basis.

There have also been ticket price hikes for supporters that have been slammed by others, although it seems the club may be about to increase the demand on fans even further.

According to a report from the Daily Telegraph, Man United have written to supporters group The 1958, admitting that they are close to breaching PSR rules.

The club have suggested they will need to reduce their losses in order to avoid being punished for that, and have suggested another rise in ticket prices is one way they will look to do that.

Borson though, has suggested that the Old Trafford club are not being entirely honest with their supporters by making that suggestion as a reason for such increases.

Taking to X to respond to those claims, the football finance expert did not hold back, as he wrote: “Imagine thinking the supporters are so stupid they will believe this”.

Football Insider Verdict

Amid all the problems that the Red Devils have had recently, it is understandable that many supporters of the club are already far from happy with the running of the club.

As a result Man United are surely playing a dangerous game with this suggestion that the price of tickets is set to go up even further.

Doing so is likely to make fans feel they are being taking advantage of even more, and that will only further hinder any sense of a positive atmosphere around Old Trafford.

Of course it is also worth noting that the results being produced on the pitch at least are not exactly worth paying even more money to watch at this moment in time.

With that in mind there will be questions about whether Man United fans will go along with or agree to pay for that potential rise in ticket costs.

It will therefore be interesting to see exactly what approach Ratcliffe and co. take here as they continue to attempt to sort out the financial mess that appears to have developed at the club.
