Expert: Tottenham to ramp up Sam Johnstone talks ahead of imminent official approach

There will be more talk about Sam Johnstone signing for Tottenham over the coming weeks ahead of the club making their offer at the end of the month.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

The Londoners are in the market for a new keeper even though Hugo Lloris signed a new contract in January that runs until the summer of 2024.

Wenham expects transfer talk to ramp up over the next few weeks ahead of an offer behind made at the end of May.

"Tottenham can't officially approach him until 30 May," Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"I think in the days before then and certainly the days after we will hear a lot more talk and have a much clearer picture of what is going on.

"We know Tottenham are very interested, he ticks a lot of boxes and it lines up with Gollini going back to Atalanta and the end of the season.

"I have always said I would rate the signing as he is a Premier League-quality keeper coming in on a free."

Johnstone was named West Brom’s Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year for last season’s 2020-21 campaign.

Johnstone made 36 appearances during the 2021-22 Championship season.
