Newcastle fans deliver message to Leeds after stalemate
By Danny Wright
Newcastle fans are desperate for Leeds to beat Brighton on Saturday evening after they failed to beat Birmingham.
The Magpies were held to a goalless draw in what was a very drab affair at St. Andrews.
That result means that Brighton could leapfrog the current league leaders to take top spot in the Championship if they manage to beat Garry Monk’s side.
Brighton and Newcastle have been in a hotly-contested race for the title for most of the season and have emerged as the runaway candidates for the two automatic promotion spots.
However Saturday’s setback could see Rafa Benitez’s side move off the top spot for the first time since their 2-2 draw with Bristol City in February.
The Toon Army will be less excited about Leeds’ chances when they see their terrible record against Brighton in recent seasons.
The Yorkshire club have lost their last six matches against the Gulls and they have only beat them once in their last 12 meetings dating back to August 2010.
A draw on Saturday evening would see Chris Hughton’s side move on level points with Newcastle, however the north-east club will keep hold of a six-goal buffer thanks to their superior goal difference.
Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to say that they are hopeful Leeds can get the result they need and here is a selection of their tweets:
