Automatic chasers Huddersfield Town were thrashed 4-0 at Bristol City on Friday night – and Newcastle fans on Twitter were pleased with the result.
David Wagner’s side had the opportunity to close the gap on the top two to three points had they picked up a win against the relegation strugglers.
Instead, they conceded four goals away from home against a team that was sitting in the bottom three prior to this match.
As a result, leaders Newcastle have maintained their six-point lead on the third-placed side and they can open up that gap if they pick up points against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.
Second-placed Brighton are level with the Magpies in the table and they will travel to play-off hopefuls Leeds on Saturday evening.
The Toon Army supporters stated that they should now focus on their match and pick up the much-needed points at strugglers Birmingham.
Furthermore, others fans were just pleased that the Terriers were beaten and they were hoping that this result will be the downfall of the Yorkshire side.
However, one supporter was reminding his fellow fans that they shouldn’t gloat because Rafa Benitez’ side are yet to pick up their points for the weekend.
Overall, the Newcastle fans were surprised to see the Terriers suffer such a heavy defeat but they were aware that the result has helped them.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
