Newcastle fans say the same thing about Lloyd Kelly after Juventus debut
Newcastle United fans have all been questioning the details of Lloyd Kelly’s transfer to Juventus after his difficult display on Tuesday (11 February) for the Italian giants.
The 26-year-old joined Juventus on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window, with the Serie A side having an obligation to buy him for £20million in the summer.
However, the Newcastle loanee struggled during his Champions League debut for the club against PSV Eindhoven.
Juventus were able to win the game 2-1, but the Magpies fans were quick to notice he had a hand to play in PSV Eindhoven’s goal due to some poor defensive work.
Juventus initially took the lead through Weston McKennie, while Samuel Mbangula went on to score the winner in the 82nd minute.
Kelly had already made his debut in the Serie A against Como, but that was another fixture where the squad failed to keep a clean sheet.
Lloyd Kelly’s move was a PSR boost for Newcastle
Newcastle had a quiet January transfer window, with the focus being on offloading players to earn money in a bid to offset any potential profit and sustainability or financial fair play issues moving forward.
These handcuffed Eddie Howe during the previous summer transfer window and led to him being forced to sell players, which he was keen to avoid repeating.
Football Insider revealed that Newcastle are currently in a strong position to offer Alexander Isak a new contract at the end of the season due to the money they’ve gained, which would be seen as a massive deal due to the consistent goal threat he has provided.
Newcastle fans are worried Juventus will scrap the transfer
Kelly had struggled to make any impact during his time at St James’ Park, making just four Premier League appearances since joining the club in the summer where he reunited with Howe.
Football Insider did reveal that Kelly was keen to remain at Newcastle and fight for his position, and that has fans worried about whether his expected summer sale will go through.
After a difficult performance in the Champions League, the Toon Army were keen to remind Juventus the deal is agreed.
