Newcastle player ratings v Huddersfield: Senior player is horrendous
COMMENT By Harvey Byrne
Football Insider rates the Newcastle players out of 10 after their 3-1 win against Huddersfield in the Championship on Saturday.
Karl Darlow 8 – Pulled off some fine saves and helped keep his side in the match. Could only be beaten from the spot.
Vurnon Anita 5 – Defended well, but he failed to find any of his teammates when in the final third.
Jamaal Lascelles 6 – Solid in the back line. Didn’t put a foot wrong against a strong Huddersfield attack.
Ciaran Clark 6 – His impressive partnership continued once more with Lascelles as the duo ensured they kept the Terriers attack quiet.
Paul Dummett 6 – A few stray passes, but he dealt with Elias Kachunga well down his side.
Matt Ritchie 8 – Won a penalty within the first 10 minutes and duly converted to put his side a goal up. His workrate was also phenomenal across the 90 minuyrd.
Jonjo Shelvey 4 – Played a fine ball for his team for the second goal, but turned the villain in the second half after he gave away a penalty, making the last 20 minutes nervy.
Jack Colback 5 – Another poor display from the midfielder. Booked for a silly challenge in the first half.
Christian Atsu 5 – Didn’t get a lot of joy in the attack. Was generally dealt with well by the Huddersfield defence.
Mohamed Diame 3 – Horrendous in the attack. A footballer at this level should be able to control simple balls, but the senior man’s first touch was lacking every time he received the ball.
Daryl Murphy 7 – Offered a physical presence upfront for his team and took advantage of a Danny Ward mistake to put his side two goals up.
SUBS:
Dwight Gayle (For Murphy 65 minutes) – 8
Yoan Gouffran (For Colback 72 minutes) – 6
DeAndre Yedlin (For Atsu 81 minutes) – 6
