Newcastle fans slam Benitez decision to start 27-year-old v Huddersfield

By Harvey Byrne

Newcastle fans have slammed Rafa Benitez’ decision to start Vurnon Anita against Hudderfield on Saturday evening.

The 27-year-old Dutchman was brought into the team in the right-back role with the pacey DeAndre Yedlin dropping out.

It is felt that Benitez trusts Anita’s defensive work more than Yedlin’s against a Huddersfield team who are very strong out wide.

However, Newcastle fans on social media have not agreed with many questioning the decision, while one went as far as to label it a “big mistake” before the kick off.

Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Anita has played 23 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle this season with a return of just one assists.

Meanwhile, Yedlin has a return of five assists in one goal in four more outings.

However, fans will now be hoping for a solid display from the Dutchman as they look to run clear at the top of the table.

After Brighton’s defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday a win for Newcastle could see them run five points clear of the second placed Seagulls.

Additionally, they will also move a whole 11 points clear of the third placed Terries with just 11 matches of the season left.
