Newcastle to hold crunch Alexander Isak talks after Arsenal twist – sources

Newcastle United are set to hold talks with Alexander Isak about the offer of a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

Along with the rest of his teammates, Isak, 24, will take a pay cut next season of around 20 per cent after the north-east giants failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Newcastle are keen to offer their star forward a new and improved deal that would bring him in line with the club’s top earners such as Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier.

Talks are likely to take place after the FA Cup final, when United will know which European competition they will be in next season.

The potential of a new contract for the Swedish forward comes amid plenty of interest from top Premier League clubs.

Football Insider previously revealed that the striker has attracted interest from Arsenal, while Tottenham have also joined the race.

Newcastle United to offer Alexander Isak a new contract

Isak joined Newcastle for a club-record £63million from Real Sociedad in 2022 and has scored 31 goals in 52 Premier League appearances, including hitting 21 this season.

In all competitions in 2023-24, the striker has scored a highly impressive 25 goals from 40 appearances despite missing seven Premier League and Champions League matches due to injury.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that a £100million offer for Isak would be enough to lure him away from St James’ Park.

Tying Isak down to a new deal would be vindication of Newcastle’s ambition and growing status in English football.
