Newcastle United to blow transfer rivals out of the water in January amid ‘unbelievable’ claim – pundit
Newcastle United will blow their rivals out of the water during the January transfer window.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Magpies’ January plans.
Newcastle will be third at Christmas after winning their final game before the World Cup break, beating Chelsea 1-0 on 12 November.
On 5 November, this site revealed Newcastle have set aside a “huge sum” of money to spend in January.
McManus insists the lure of Champions League football can help Newcastle beat their rivals to signings in January.
“Firstly, let’s just all agree how impressive it is that Newcastle are there,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“Players from all over the world watch the Premier League and they will have seen Newcastle play. They know where they are in the table.
“So if a call comes in from their agent in January saying that Newcastle want them, that has to be attractive to those players.
“Who would Newcastle usually compete with? Aston Villa? West Ham? Leicester? Newcastle are miles ahead of them now, it’s a no-contest if those teams are fighting it out for a signing.
“Make no mistake, there will be signings. Imagine if the new owners could secure Champions League football in their first full season.
“That would be unbelievable and I’m sure the owners will give the club the money to make that happen.”

Newcastle signed Nick Pope, Sven Botman, Alexander Isak and Matt Targett in the 2022 summer window.
The arrival of Isak broke the club’s transfer record.
In other news, a finance expert has claimed Newcastle United could complete a landmark signing in January as £70million+ news is confirmed.
