PL rivals punch ahead of Everton in £10m race for Serie A striker – report

By Abigail Withey

West Brom are set to rival fellow Premier League club Everton for Serie A forward Diego Falcinelli according to a recent report.

The Sun claim that Tony Pulis is ready to put a spanner in the works for the Toffees by tabling a hefty bid of £10million for the 26-year-old.

The newspaper has revealed on their website that the West Brom boss is keen to secure another forward before the transfer window closes after he signed Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez.

It is understood that the Italian is eager to move to the Premier League after he spent the past four seasons away on loan.

Falcinelli joined Sassuolu back in 2009 but has ventured away for numerous loan spells at clubs such at Crotone, Perugia and Virtus Lanciano.

During his last season at Crotone he managed to find the net 13 times which helped the club avoid relegation from the Serie A competition by the skin of their teeth.

Everton were reported by The Sun in May to have shown an interest in the Italian star as a potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

However they have yet to advance that interest into a bid and West Brom have now taken the lead by firming up their interest.

Football Insider verdict:

Falcinelli scored 13 times for Crotone in Serie A and it’s evidence that he could do a job for either West Brom or Everton in the Premier League. However, Koeman has shwon ambition in his summer dealings and he may well have his eye on someone bigger and better. He’s been monitoring Falcinelli for some time now and the fact that hasn’t materialised into a bid is not necessarily bad news for the Toffees. If it came down to a straight race then you’d imagine Everton would have the clout to attract the player to Merseyside.

In other Everton transfer news, the Toffees are looking to thrash out a deal for Premier League assist king this weekend with medical scheduled.
