Pundit suggests Liverpool big name who will follow Joel Matip out the exit door

Alan Hutton has suggested Joe Gomez could follow Joel Matip out the exit door at Liverpool this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said the Reds will need to move players on to bring in new additions.

On 18 March, sources told Football Insider that Jurgen Klopp’s side are expected to offload at least one of their four senior centre-backs this summer, with Matip the most likely to leave.

Aston Villa

The 32-year-old is out of contract in 2024 and a bid of £10-15million could be enough to convince the Merseysiders to sell.

Gomez, 25, has four years left on his deal at Anfield after signing an extension last summer.

Klopp’s other senior options at centre-back are Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate, his preferred central defensive pairing.

When asked if there are any other defenders that could follow Matip out the door if he leaves this summer, Hutton told Football Insider:You look at the likes of Gomez,

I think he is a good player when he is alongside Van Dijk and he is fully fit and firing on all cylinders.

Will they try and move somebody out to bring somebody in? Possibly.

Liverpool

I think if you look at Trent [Alexander-Arnold], he needs a bit of competition. I know [Calvin] Ramsay went down from Aberdeen but he is still very young.

I think there will be players that they will look to bring in. But, when everybody is fit and confident they have got a quality squad there is no denying that. So that is where Klopp will want to get back to.
