Reliable journalist – Rangers desperate to sign 6ft 2 attacker after key development

Rangers are desperate to sign Swansea striker Oli McBurnie, according to a reliable journalist.

Phil Hay, a senior journalist with the Yorkshire Evening Post made the claim on his Twitter account on Monday night.

Leeds are another team that have been credited with an interest in the striker, who enjoyed a brilliant second half of the season on loan at Barnsley.

However, Rangers are the huge bookies favourites, odds on to sign him this summer at 1/2. Leeds are way back in second with odds of 6/1 from BetVictor.

Hay shed some light on the tussle between the two clubs, saying that “Rangers want McBurnie badly” and adding that Leeds aren’t pushing hard despite manager Paul Heckingbottom wanting him.

He added that Leeds would prefer to sign Abel Hernandez from Hull.

Football Insider verdict:

Leeds were Rangers’ main competition for the signature of McBurnie and if they’re not that keen, it would seemingly open the door to Ibrox. Footballers want to be wanted and Rangers want McBurnie “badly”. That should be enough to see a deal done this summer, although it might not be a done deal yet. Leeds want Hernandez but there’s every chance that they won’t be able to afford him – which might bring them back to McBurnie.
