‘Got to be’, ‘All the way’ – Rangers fans adamant one man must start v Celtic
Rangers supporters have had their say on social media and demanded that Declan John is given the nod ahead of Lee Wallace in this weekend’s Scottish Premier League battle against Celtic at Ibrox.
John has missed the last two games against St Johnstone and Falkirk while the Gers captain has been out since September – but both could be available for Sunday.
Wallace reportedly played the full 90 minutes in a closed doors friendly against St Mirren on Tuesday afternoon to push himself into contention for the Old Firm derby.
However, in light of the Scot’s injury, John has stepped in and stepped up to the fore, filling in admirably in the full-back position.
While the 30-year-old’s return to fitness is unquestionably a boost going into the final run in, the lack of competitive action is a concern for all associated with the club and it is for this reason that supporters would prefer to see the Welshman continue where he left off in the side.
The Light Blues faithful were calling for John’s name in their masses on social media and urged the Gers manager to give the 22-year-old his place in the starting XI.
There is so much riding on this game – not least bragging rights – but an opportunity for Rangers to go for their first title since the 2010/11 season means that no risks can be taken and Wallace would be a risk.
