'Up all night' – Murty makes striker admission ahead of Rangers v Celtic
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has said that he fully expects his on-loan striker Jason Cummings to be at the front of the queue, demanding a place in the starting XI to face Celtic in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday.
The Gers boss was speaking to the RangersTV ahead of the weekend’s clash when he admitted that he had not given much thought to the Glasgow derby and was still mulling over issues that he had spotted in the Scottish Cup win over Falkirk.
Murty said: “I am not worried about it (team selection), I have been up all night because that is just my thing, I watch the game back and I had a look at a few things, a few things that were concerning me and annoying me.
“I am quite relaxed regarding the weekend. I haven’t actually looked forward to the weekend yet, I am sure I will have a few people knocking on my door saying that they want to be involved and Jason Cummings will probably be at the front of that queue.”
Football Insider verdict:
Cummings has quickly become a fan favourite at Ibrox, despite only making the switch from Nottingham Forest in January, he has taken no time at all to settle into the squad. A hattrick at the weekend will give Murty a selection headache – but what a good one to have. Alfredo Morelos and Cummings will fight it out but the spirit, aggression, and awareness of what it means to play against Celtic will inspire both of them. He will need to fight for every ball but if there is anyone that Murty can rely on to put in a shift for his side, it’s Cummings. Can he play both strikers though? As Morelos is undroppable at the moment.
