Central midfielder fulfilled a lifelong dream when he signed for his boyhood heroes from Hamilton.
Docherty is very experienced despite only being 21 and has played almost 100 Scottish Premiership games for the Accies before joining the Light Blues.
Docherty will add something a little bit different to the Gers midfield and is a signing the club clearly feels can benefit the club in the long-term with the midfielder handed a four-and-a-half year contract.
Scotland Under-21 international might not see regular starts this season but will be an important player for the Gers as the season wears on.
