Gerrard wants 6ft 2 enforcer at Rangers but it would be a huge mistake

Steven Gerrard has said that he wants to make West Ham’s Reece Burke his next signing at Rangers, but this would be a huge mistake.
The Mirror claimed previously that the 21-year-old enforcer, who impressed during a loan period with Bolton last season, has found himself at the top of Gerrard’s hit list.
He made 25 appearances for Bolton last season, to go with the 15 games he’s played for West Ham.
And the The Times have claimed that Manuel Pellegrini will listen to offers for the talented player who’s come up the youth ranks at West Ham.
However, Burke isn’t what Rangers need.
Gerrard has identified the Rangers defence as the place that he needs to concentrate on next season – the 5-5 last game of the season against Hibs proved that.
However, Gerrard needs players who can step straight into a high-pressure environment and adapt to life in the tough Scottish Premiership straight away.
martin Skrtel would have been perfect, but the deal for the 33-year-old has seemingly broken down over money.
That’s a huge shame. The experienced former Liverpool player is as tough as it gets in the centre-back position and could have easily monstered the division for three years.
If he’s not coming to Ibrox, then Gerrard needs to identify similar players, like Kyle Bartley from Swansea.
Burke is a rookie, a talented one perhaps, but not the sort of player that Rangers want to be spending precious money on this summer.
He’s a luxury that Gerrard literally can’t afford.
