Rangers ‘waste’: Pundit in disbelief at ‘incredible’ Ibrox revelation

Rangers revelations at the club’s AGM has left Tam McManus stunned by the “astronomical” waste of money at Ibrox.

The Glasgow club sold five players during last summers’ transfer market, with Todd Cantwell, Sam Lammers, Connor Goldson, Scott Wright and Ross McCrorie all leaving for transfer fees.

Speaking at the club’s AGM on Thursday, chief financial officer James Taylor confirmed that the sale of those five players brought a total of £800,000 into Ibrox.

Many Rangers fans were far from impressed with that total income raised from those sales, and it seems McManus shares a similar feeling.

Taking to social media to react to that revelation, the former Hibs striker turned pundit said: “That’s incredible. The levels of money wasted at Rangers is astronomical.”

Rangers should not be pleased with their summer transfer income

The shock and disappointment that has emerged at the relatively small amount the club raised in transfer fees in the summer is certainly understandable.

When you consider the quality of some of those players who were sold by the Ibrox outfit during that period, it certainly feels as though they are worth more than they actually cost.

A number of those individuals still had quite some time remaining on their contracts in Glasgow as well, meaning Rangers should have been in a position to demand bigger fees for them as well.

Sam Lammers was among the bargain Rangers exits.

Not bringing in more money does of course have the knock-on effect of leaving them with less money to invest in that transfer window too.

That likely means this Rangers squad is not as strong as it could have been, which has surely contributed to a poor start to the season which has put manager Philippe Clement under extensive pressure.

All of that means that those in charge at Ibrox will be keen to get better deals when it comes to future sales in the market, not least to ease the scrutiny on their own positions at the club.
