Rangnick may force Ronaldo into retirement after Man United source’s reveal – pundit
Ralf Rangnick will have a “problem” if he keeps Cristiano Ronaldo on the Man United bench, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Ronaldo would sooner retire than be a “benchwarmer”.
The iconic forward was dropped to the bench for United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
He seemed visibly frustrated at the end of the game as he marched straight down the tunnel after being introduced as a substitute.
An agent of a Man United star told Football Insider last month (22 November) Ronaldo’s presence is having a negative impact on his teammates.
They are “fearful” of letting him down and even scared of being at the wrong end of one of his “dismissive looks”.
But Agbonlahor suggested it could get even worse if he is not a regular starter.
“If Rangnick has to drop Ronaldo how will that affect the rest of the squad?” he said to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“Ronaldo will be a big voice in that changing room and he won’t want to be on the bench. Rangnick will have a problem if he chooses to leave the talisman on the bench.
“Ronaldo will not accept that, no way. He won’t mind being rested over Christmas when there are two games, three games in a week. That’s different, we all know you have to have rest.

“To not play regularly though, Ronaldo is not that guy. I’m sure Ronaldo would rather retire than be a benchwarmer.
“He’s not that guy, he wants to play every game. It will be interesting to see what happens. He could end up retiring.”
