Sky pundit explains why this Aston Villa signing will be crucial

Peter Beagrie believes that Aston Villa’s January signing Scott Hogan will help the team play with a different shape.

The 24-year-old completed a £9million move on deadlined day from Brentford and should some extra firepower to the attack.

The Midlands giants have struggled in the Championship this season and have scored just 28 goals in 28 league games.

Steve Bruce’s side have slipped 10 points adrift of the play-off places after their 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Tuesday night and will need to put a great run together if they are to gain promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Sky Sports pundit Beagrie feels that Hogan should be able to improve Villa’s chance in front of goal.

“We look at the set-up that they have got at Aston Villa with the two pacey wingers and Jonathan Kodjia up front and they have a lot of mobility and ability there,” Beagrie said, as quoted by Sky Sports. “Hogan certainly gives Steve Bruce some attacking options and an opportunity to try and change the shape.”

“Bruce has got plenty of players that play in that withdrawn striker role and with Jordan Ayew going as well, he needed another striker and he has got one of very good repute.”

Hogan has moved to Villa Park after being in good form this season and will replace Jordan Ayew and Ross McCormack as attacking options.

The striker has scored 14 goals in 27 appearances this season for Brentford and will hope to replicate that form at his new club.
