Gary Lineker makes Twitter claim about Steven Gerrard after he is hired by Rangers

BT Sport presenter Gary Lineker has lauded his colleague Steven Gerrard, after the former Liverpool captain was named as the new Gers manager on a four-year contract.

The news was announced on the Gers website a short time ago and he will take charge in the summer with Jimmy Nicholl set to see out the rest of the current campaign.

Lineker admitted that he will miss working with Gerrard on television, but he claims that the new Gers boss has all the attributes needed to become a successful manager.

“Wish Steven Gerrard all the very best with Rangers. If he’s even half as good a manager as he was a player, he’ll be triumphant. Been great working with him on the telly. Smart, knowledgeable and driven” he said on his personal Twitter account.

Gerrard will be under pressure as he begins his first managerial job at one of the biggest clubs in the United Kingdom, but if he has all the qualities Lineker claims that he has then he should be a success at Ibrox.

Naturally Lineker is going to talk well about a man he has worked alongside for many years, but Gers fans must be heartened by the fact that so many prominent football personalities believe that Gerrard will succeed in his first job in football management. Of course, the proof is in the pudding, and it will all depend on results, but if Gerrard gets the financial backing he needs then perhaps the Gers could mount a challenge for the league title next season. Gerrard will need to get off to a good start though, and a run in Europe would he handy, he doesn’t want to get into the situation faced by Pedro Caixinha, whose Gers career was all but ended after poor results in Europe. If he gets off to a good start then that will only breed confidence in the fans and in the players, and the Gers can look to kick on from there and mount a league challenge.
