Sources: Brighton in advanced talks to agree Ferguson deal

Brighton are increasingly confident of reaching a full agreement with striker sensation Evan Ferguson over a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that talks with the 18-year-old have been ongoing for months – but all parties are happy with the progress made and a deal is now advanced.

Sources with knowledge of the situation have revealed that Ferguson is happy at the Amex Stadium – and the club are thrilled with his development during his breakthrough campaign in 2022-23.

It is believed that a contract renewal could now be settled “very quickly” as all parties put the finishing touches on a deal.

That is despite the Republic of Ireland international’s form attracting interest from elite clubs at home and abroad.

Football Insider revealed last month (27 March) that Tottenham are among the Premier League giants interested in signing the Brighton sensation.

Sources also told this site (25 March) that Man United are in the hunt to prise him away from the Seagulls this summer.

Ferguson has notched eight goals and three assists in 19 appearances across all competitions for Brighton this season.

The striker, who scored on his first senior international start against Lavia last month, only extended his contract in October 2022.

He has more than three years left to run on his reported £3,000-a-week deal.

Ferguson remains behind experienced former England international striker Danny Welbeck in the Brighton pecking order for now.

The Seagulls are well-placed to secure a first-ever European qualification this season since the club was founded in 1901.

Roberto de Zerbi’s side were knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage by Man United on Sunday (24 April) in the injury absence of Ferguson.
