Sources: Chelsea could now crush Tottenham’s next manager dream
Chelsea are monitoring the availability of Tottenham target Julian Nagelsmann, sources have told Football Insider.
The 35-year-old German manager was sacked by Bayern Munich on Friday afternoon following their loss to Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday (19 March).
Football Insider sources reported on Friday that Tottenham have identified Nagelsmann as their first-choice managerial candidate to replace Antonio Conte.
But it is understood that Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Nagelsmann‘s future plans in case they decide to make what sources say would be a “shock” swoop for him in the summer.
The Blues plan to keep faith with Graham Potter at Stamford Bridge, with new owner Todd Boehly eager to give the Englishman a full pre-season and transfer window with the squad.
Potter endured a rough start at the club but has enjoyed an upturn of results in recent weeks, including passage into the Champions League quarter-finals after a 2-1 aggregate victory over Borussia Dortmund.
But if Potter suffered a poor end to the current campaign, Chelsea haven’t ruled out a move to hijack Nagelsmann from their London rivals.
Chelsea, however, understand that missing out on Champions League football next season would make any potential deal for Nagelsmann very difficult.

Nagelsmann leaves Bayern having taken the German giants to the quarter-final of the Champions League with a perfect 100 per cent win rate, which included seven clean sheets in eight games.
Bayern also sit second in the Bundesliga table, one point off rivals Borussia Dortmund. Nagelsmann managed a 71.4 per cent win rate across all competitions during his two years at the club.
