Sources: Liverpool make move to sign Romeo Lavia as clause revealed
Liverpool have entered the race for Southampton midfield starlet Romeo Lavia ahead of the summer window, sources have told Football Insider.
It is believed the Merseysiders are keen to bring the 19-year-old to Anfield in the off-season as they plot an overhaul of their midfield.
Football Insider revealed last month (24 March) that Chelsea are actively working to sign Lavia – with Man City, Arsenal and Man United also interested.
The Belgium international joined Southampton from City last summer, putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at St Mary’s Stadium.
The Premier League champions inserted a £40million buy-back clause into the deal and will be entitled to 20% of any future sale – meaning they could do a deal for £32million.
However, City cannot activate their buy-back until 2024 – opening the door for other top-flight clubs to make their move for Lavia this summer.
Southampton’s status as a top-flight club is hanging by a thread despite the best efforts of Lavia this season.
Ruben Selles’ side are effectively four points from safety after losing 1-0 in a crucial clash with West Ham on Sunday (2 April).
Liverpool are targeting several midfielders as they prepare for the likes of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to depart this summer.
Football Insider revealed last week (31 March) that the Reds remain in pole position to land Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham – for a fee which could exceed £130million.

Jurgen Klopp’s side must make up a nine-point deficit to fourth-place Newcastle if they are to seal Champions League qualification for the 2023-24 season.
