‘He’s going to Arsenal’ – Man United ready to pull plug on signing Declan Rice after latest

Man United are now unlikely to win the race for Declan Rice’s signature this summer amid fears “he’s going to Arsenal”, sources have told Football Insider.

Rice’s priority is to remain in London when he leaves West Ham making it highly unlikely that a move to old Trafford will happen.

The 24-year-old’s contract at the London Stadium runs until 2024 and includes a 12-month option but the midfielder has repeatedly made clear his ambitions to move on from the club.

The England international has already rejected multiple attempts by David Moyes’ side to tie him down to a new long-term deal and it is increasingly likely he will quit in the summer.

Arsenal currently lead the race for the midfielder and are in sustained contact with his representatives.

According to Sky Sports (7 March), Man United submitted a £100million bid for the midfielder last summer but ultimately no deal was struck.

United have been hopeful of convincing Rice of a move to Manchester this summer.

But that eventuality is becoming increasingly unlikely as Rice’s priority is still to remain in the capital, and the club are now ready to pull the plug on their pursuit.

The feeling from many at Old Trafford is Rice is “going to Arsenal”, sources say, and the move is edging closer behind the scenes.

United are also in store for a big summer window and are set to go “all out” to prise Harry Kane from Tottenham.

Erik ten Hag’s priority in the upcoming window is to add an A-list centre-forward and has set his sights firmly on Kane.

The Red Devils are said to be willing to spend a huge sum on a new attacker and won’t be put off by the England captain’s potential £100m+ price tag.

In other news, Man United put two big names loved by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer up for sale.
