Sources: Sam Johnstone to sign for Crystal Palace today after quitting West Brom

Crystal Palace are set to complete the signing of Sam Johnstone on a free transfer on Friday, Football Insider understands.

The 29-year-old is a free agent after West Brom confirmed he will be leaving the Hawthorns this summer at the end of his current deal.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider Palace have agreed contract terms with the shot-stopper and that he will sign the deal and finalise the move on Friday (27 May).

The England international has been in high demand due to his contract situation at the Hawthorns.

As revealed by Football Insider on 3 April, Tottenham were keeping close tabs on the goalkeeper with a view to a summer move.

As detailed by this site (20 April), Johnstone told friends he was keen on a move to Spurs.

However, Tottenham have instead struck a deal to sign Southampton’s Fraser Forster on a free transfer.

Johnstone is now on the brink of a move to south London instead after agreeing terms with Crystal Palace.

The three-cap international is set to battle Jack Butland, Vicente Guaita and Remi Matthews for a place between the sticks.

The Manchester United academy graduate has 37 Premier League games under his belt for West Brom.

He joined the Baggies permanently in 2018 after loan spells with the likes of Aston Villa and Preston North End.
