Sources: Two Newcastle deals face collapse as Aaron Ramsdale update revealed

Newcastle United are increasingly likely to miss out on deals for goalkeepers Aaron Ramsdale and David De Gea this January, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider sources revealed (10 December) that the Magpies are in no rush to secure a new shot-stopper in the January transfer window, and are willing to use Martin Dubravka in Nick Pope’s absence.

A swoop for the Arsenal man looks increasingly unlikely – with sources revealing that there are “too many hurdles to jump” to bring the Englishman to Tyneside.

Football Insider also revealed (4 December) that the Magpies are readying a move for free agent David De Gea after Nick Pope suffered a devastating blow that could sideline him until April.

However, while the Spaniard remains open to moving to Newcastle, his wages could prove an issue for Eddie Howe’s side due to Financial Fair Play restrictions.

De Gea departed Man United after 12 seasons as number one but would have to take a hefty pay cut from the reported £375,000-a-week wages he was earning in Manchester to join Newcastle.

Meanwhile, Ramsdale’s potential move has posed problems due to the Gunners being unwilling to sell the player to a direct rival, while the asking price could be too costly.

The Englishman, 25, was controversially dropped by Mikel Arteta in favour of summer loanee David Raya and has made just one appearance in the last 11 Premier League games – as Raya could not play against parent club Brentford.

The club are also eyeing up loan moves this winter, with Football Insider revealing (9 December) that they are plotting multiple loan signings this January from the Saudi Pro League due to FFP restrictions.

Nottingham Forest

After their 3-0 defeat to Everton on Thursday (7 December), they next face Tottenham away in the Premier League on Sunday (10 December).
