This Aston Villa January signing was a panic buy and it will not be surprising if he flops

Scott Hogan made a late and surprising deadline day switch to Aston Villa from Championship rivals Brentford on Tuesday night.
For the majority of the January transfer window, the 24-year-old was touted for a move to Premier League outfit West Ham.
However, he made the late switch to the Midlands, in what was a clear panic buy from manager Steve Bruce.
Therefore, you have to question whether Hogan wanted to come to the club in the first place or he had no choice in making a move in the window, with Villa being his best option.
Bees manager Dean Smith had left the striker out of his plans in recent weeks with Hogan on strike as he was plotting a move.
After his actions, the former non-league player would have looked daft had he not made a move during January and in the end with the Hammers pulling out, Villa looked like his best option.
Now, Villa have him at his disposal it does not mean his form for his previous club will automatically transfer to his new side, despite scoring 14 Championship goals this season.
Villa fans will be well aware of Ross McCormack and the expectations he came with, six months later, he is on loan at Nottingham Forest.
Therefore, it will not be surprising if Hogan follows McCormack’s path and ends up being a big money flop at the club.
Hogan will be expected to hit the ground running as he has joined a side that is desperately trying to claw its way into the top six, having been thrashed by his former club on Tuesday.
There will be a lot of weight on Hogan’s shoulders and he will be hoping those expectations don’t affect his performances.
In other Aston Villa news, Stan Collymore has stated that this is what he would do with Jordan Amavi after the signing of Neil Taylor.
