23-year-old debutant not good enough: Three things we learned from Leeds win v Port Vale

3. A very timely signing

What a timely signing. Borthwick-Jackson looked a class above the opposition tonight – as he should. He’s come from the Premier League and showed he can offer as much in attack as he can in defence and at times seemed to have a telepathic understanding with Stuart Dallas on the left. Fans might have got a bit frustrated at him shooting from distance when there really wasn’t a chance on, but players that have the confidence to shoot on sight – especially defenders – are few and far between and it looks like Borthwick-Jackson will find himself on the scoresheet a few times this season. And Leeds need to find goals from wherever they can if they really want to push for promotion this season. With Gaetano Berardi out injured, Borthwick-Jackson should slot straight into the first team. And he may well stay there on tonight’s evidence.
