Club official: West Ham enforcer seeking January exit, top flight talks in progress

The sporting director of Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach has revealed that West Ham enforcer Reece Oxford is hoping to remain with the German club after his loan deal was cancelled.

The German top flight club revealed via both their official Twitter account and official website that the 19-year-old’s season-long loan deal had been cut short by the Hammers, recalling him after making just four appearances since leaving over summer.

However, club official Max Eberl has said that they remain in talks to secure the permanent transfer of the versatile player, and that the player himself is seeking a January exit from West Ham to remain with the German side.

He was quoted by the club’s official website as saying: “We were informed of their decision to activate the clause and recall him this morning.

“However, we continue to be in talks with West Ham regarding Reece Oxford completing a permanent move to Borussia. It is also the player’s wish to stay at Gladbach.”

The hot prospect, who is able to operate in either central defence or as a defensive midfielder, has found his game time limited this season, sitting on the bench as an unused substitute for the majority of Borussia’s league matches, although he was handed three successive starts prior to Germany’s winter break.

He has made 16 appearances for West Ham since making his debut as a 16-year-old, with seven of those coming in the Premier League, and is also an England under-20 international.

In other West Ham transfer news, the club are eyeing up a short term swoop for a former Premier League forward.
