Tottenham backed to agree Marcus Thuram deal after Newcastle United source’s reveal – expert

Tottenham should beat Newcastle United to the signing of Marcus Thuram in January.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On Tuesday (22 November), sources told Football Insider that Newcastle United are willing to pay £10million to sign Borussia Monchengladbach star Thuram in January.

Thuram, 25, is free to talk to clubs outside Germany from January and could sign a pre-contract with an English club ahead of joining on a free.

The France international is part of the squad for this month’s World Cup after netting 13 goals in 17 appearances for the Bundesliga side this season.

Wenham claims Tottenham should beat Newcastle to Thuram’s signature.

“Marcus Thuram is having a great season in the Bundesliga and managed to get a World Cup call-up,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“We were linked with him last summer, it was something like a £25million move and now he is essentially available for free.

“Are we asking those questions? If we were serious and our scouts watched this guy and decided he is a player, enough for us to be continuously linked with him, surely we will be in for him if he is available on a free?

“We have been linked with so many players for years and then you see their contracts are running out, we should be back after them.

“I would 100% keep an eye on Tottenham in the race for him.

He can cover for Harry Kane or out wide as well.

He’s another potential Lucas Moura replacement.”
