Pundit: Tottenham in talks to sign ‘brilliant’ Alderweireld replacement from Premier League after update
Alan Hutton has suggested Tottenham could replace Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld by signing Conor Coady from Wolves.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider the former Spurs defender insisted the Wolves captain’s leadership is what the London side are “missing” in defence.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (August 2nd) the Londoners have opened preliminary talks to sign the 28-year-old.

Vertonghen, 34, left the club for Benfica last year while Alderweireld signed for Qatar side Al-Duhail last month.
Football Insider understands Nuno Espirito Santo is pushing for the club to sign Coady, who he saw as his “lieutenant” while at the Midlands club.
“It will be a good signing for Tottenham,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“I think he’s got all the attributes to play in a back three and that’s the way Nuno is going to choose to play. He likes to come out with the ball, he’s got a great range of passing, he’s a leader, which they need at the back.
“With so much experience leaving – Jan Vertonghen, Alderweireld – all these guys moving on that’s what they’ll be missing.
“The manager trusts him which as a player is always brilliant moving to a new club.”

Coady missed just one game of football in three seasons at Wolves under Nuno.
Spurs are prioritising the capture of a centre-back and have agreed personal terms with Atalanta defender Cristian Romero.
