Tottenham told to make Sergio Reguilion U-turn after source reveal – pundit

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Sergio Reguilon is a “top-class” left-back and Tottenham should keep hold of him this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker suggested Antonio Conte may want to sign a more defensive wing-back to play on the left of his 3-5-2 system.

A recruitment source told Football Insider on Tuesday (22 March) Conte is not entirely convinced by the 26-year-old.

Tottenham

It is understood the Italian wants a better option for next season and has told the club to listen to offers for Reguilon as a result.

The Spaniard has been a mainstay in the starting XI ever since his move from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020.

He has only not featured in five Premier League games since Conte’s appointment at the beginning of November last year (2021).

Real Madrid have a buy-back option on the full-back that they can exercise this summer.

“I really like him, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I think that’s unfair criticism of Reguilon. He’s a very talented left-back, very quick and very attacking.

“Maybe the only reason is Conte wants a more defensive-minded left wing-back.

“For me though, Reguilon is a top-class left-back.”

Tottenham

Reguilon has played 65 times across all competitions, providing nine assists, for Tottenham and is under contract until the summer of 2025.

Conte has also put his trust in Ryan Sessegnon at left wing-back but the England youth international has struggled with injury.

In other news, Tottenham have set their sights on signing a £50million+ valued centre-back who Conte loves.
