West Ham fans have reacted in disbelief on Twitter after Diafra Sakho was ruled out for 6-10 weeks with a back injury.
The 26-year-old forward has struggled with the problem all season, and has undergone surgery on the injury which will keep him out until at least February.
Sky Sports revealed the news on their official Twitter account, which will also see the Senegal international miss the Africa Cup of Nations.
It was later confirmed by Slaven Bilic on the official West Ham site, who said that Sakho would be out for 6-10 weeks and might not even return to the side until March.
“He (Sakho) has a back problem and it will rule him out, six-eight weeks, maybe 10 weeks, we are talking about even March for him to be back,” Bilic said.
Sakho had only just returned to full fitness for Slaven Bilic’s side, scoring one goal against Manchester United during the recent 1-1 Premier League draw.
Sakho will now miss another large chunk of the season and Hammers fans couldn’t believe their luck, with some urging Bilic to get the chequebook out in January to deal with the problem.
One fan also wants to see youngster Toni Martinez given a run out.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Since his £3.5million move to east London in the summer of 2014 from French outfit Metz, Sakho has found the back of the net 20 times in all competitions during 52 outings.
The versatile forward has been limited to just two appearances this season and West Ham’s need for a new striker has just got more urgent.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers are reportedly in talks with this Argentinian striker.
