Guardiola ‘mad’ as he knows this player would have won Man City the Champions League – pundit

Manchester City would have won the Champions League if Harry Kane was playing against Chelsea.

That’s according to former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about City’s transfer plans.

The Premier League champions want to sign Kane this summer and his preference is a move to Etihad Stadium.

Football Insider broke the news in April that the England captain had told friends he wants to quit Spurs this summer.

City lost the Champions League final on Saturday and only troubled Chelsea stopper Edouard Mendy on one occasion.

Whelan claims Guardiola will have been driven mad by not having a player like Kane on the pitch.

When asked if Manchester City would have beaten Chelsea if Kane was playing, Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “Yeah, probably.

“I thought that during the game. Even playing Aguero up front from the beginning might have changed the outcome of the game.

“They were classic chances that Kane would have finished off. But they didn’t have that out and out striker on the pitch.

“Kane’s always on the front foot, always thinking, always in the right place at the right time.

“These are all things you can look back on with hindsight. It will have driven Guardiola mad, thinking about Kane.

“Chelsea’s plan worked perfectly but if Kane was playing for City, there’s no doubt for me they would have won that game. He’s a born scorer.”

Kane finished the recently concluded season as the Premier League’s top goalscorer.

He also picked up more assists than anyone else during a remarkable personal campaign.
