Whelan tells Kane to quit Tottenham after watching YouTube footage
Noel Whelan claims Harry Kane has done enough for Tottenham and earned the right to speak about his future.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds hitman admitted he has no problem with Kane speaking about his future with Gary Neville.
The 27-year-old told Neville on the Overlap Youtube channel last week that he needs to hold talks with Daniel Levy about his future at the club.
Football Insider understands the England captain is “hell bent” on quitting Spurs this summer.
However, the club are in a strong position given the striker still has three years remaining on his current deal.
Whelan has no issue with Kane speaking out after seeing through his “gentleman’s agreement” with Spurs.
“Harry Kane deserves that moment,” Whelan told Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs.
“He’s been very professional throughout his career. I said he should have left last summer, he probably should have done.
“He gave Spurs the benefit of the doubt and gave them time to do the things Kane wanted.
“He wanted them to invest, push for the top four, for the title and for the Champions League.
“That hasn’t happened. So all in all, when you have a gentleman’s agreement and he committed himself to another year that was frankly a let-down, he needs to go.
“Interviews are interviews, I don’t mind that. He’s done enough at that football club to deserve to have a say in what he wants.
“He’s given Tottenham everything. Now it’s time for Kane to do what Kane wants to do.
“He deserves to end his career by winning trophies.”
