‘Absolute joke’ – Everton fans erupt at new announcement ahead of Merseyside derby

Everton supporters have not taken well to the latest update ahead of facing Liverpool in the Merseyside derby in April.

The Toffees are yet to face their biggest rivals at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with James Tarkowski scoring the final ever goal against their bitter rivals at Goodison Park last season.

David Moyes and Arne Slot were set to go head-to-head on Merseyside on Saturday, 18 April at 3pm, but that appears to have officially changed, with the supporters being given a heads-up the month before.

Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Slot could be sacked without Champions League football, and the Toffees might be able to play a vital role in the manager’s impending demise at Anfield.

Everton fans fume as Merseyside derby changes announced

The match has been delayed a day, with kick-off at 2pm instead, and reading the replies to the announcement, the majority of supporters are deeply unhappy with the change.

Calling it out as an “absolute joke,” many would have preferred an early kick-off on the Saturday, but everyone’s plans have now changed ahead of the upcoming Merseyside derby.

One supporter felt that a late-night Monday game would have been better, but either way, those going to the stadium or watching from home are not pleased in the slightest.

How have Liverpool fans reacted to the announcement?

Unsurprisingly, the travelling supporters are just as disappointed, with a rare moment of agreement with their bitter rivals ahead of the Merseyside derby.

Liverpool fans are only coming across the city in their numbers, but with many going to work the next day, it is totally understandable that the majority of reactions are negative ones.

Stefan Borson told Football Insider that Slot must secure Champions League football to survive, and given the Reds’ most recent defeat to Wolves, a lot of the comments are also about his future at Anfield.

It seems a little harsh, given how much there is still to play for, but fans are making their feelings known.
