Agbonlahor: Leeds backed to seal Alioski deal after YEP update today

Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Leeds United to tie Ezgjan Alioski to a new contract.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa forward insisted Alioski has been “outstanding” this season but the Whites still need to sign a first-choice left-back.

The 29-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the month but the club confirmed in their retained list that he has been offered a new deal.

The Yorkshire Evening Post‘s Graham Smyth reported today (June 4) that Victor Orta had held discussions with Alioski this week as the Whites remain “keen” to keep hold of him.

That is despite the fact they are in the market for a new left-back.

Football Insider learned on June 2 that Leeds have registered their interest in Huesca’s Javi Galan whose release clause is just £3.5million.

This site revealed at the beginning of the month that the Whites’ pursuit of previous top-target Romain Perraud had hit a stumbling block due to Stade Brest’s £15-18million asking price.

“I’d keep Alioski,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I think he’s been outstanding at times this season.

“I’d still bring in a left-back, a young one, who knows how to play the position.

“Alioski would be the second choice but you need a second choice.

“He can play in different positions so I’d sign him up for another season at least.”

Alioski featured in 36 Premier League games this season and contributed two goals and three assists from left-back.

He is currently on international duty as North Macedonia prepare for this summer’s European Championships.
