Aston Villa sensation Grealish could join Liverpool after agent update – pundit
Aston Villa could allow Jack Grealish to leave in pursuit of silverware and he could join Liverpool rather than one of the Manchester giants, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Villans would respect the 25-year-old’s desire to test himself at a higher level next season.
Speaking to SNTV, Grealish’s agent Jonathan Barnett confessed he was not sure where the playmaker’s future lay ahead of the upcoming window.
As revealed by Football Insider, Villa are braced for a huge bid from Manchester City this summer after Pep Guardiola identified Grealish as a top target.
It is understood the Spaniard would be willing to sell Raheem Sterling to bring the Aston Villa ace in.
Grealish himself has told friends he would be open to joining City ahead of next season in what would be a tough decision to quit Villa.
“A player like that is going to want to win things,” Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“Now, are you going to promise a Premier League? No, you can’t do that because they’re not going to win it. They’re like a Tottenham, they’re like an Arsenal, they’re not going to win it.
“There are only three teams, in my opinion, that will have a chance of signing Grealish: Liverpool, Man United and Man City. Everyone else is so far off. It’s impossible to go out there and spend the amount of money without breaking the fair play rules.
“I’m sure they’ll be very loyal to him if an offer does come in and give him that opportunity. I think as a player, individually, you’re now looking at that age where you need to start winning things.
“Being successful, progressing, getting better as a player. The only way you’re going to get better is being at a bigger club playing with better players.”
Grealish has played 209 times for Villa since breaking through the youth ranks.
He has scored seven goals and chipping in with 12 assists in just 23 appearances this season.
