BBC pundit singles out two Rangers stars for praise after cup rout
BBC Scotland’s Tam McManus has singled out Rangers full-backs Declan John and James Tavernier for praise after their performances in the 6-1 Scottish Cup rout over Ayr United.
The duo were a constant threat going forward for the Gers and caused huge problems for the Honest Men’s defence as the Gers ran riot in the second-half.
Both players pushed forward with little difficulty as the League One side struggled to cope with the Gers’ attacks as they hit five second-half goals.
McManus praised the pair’s ability going forward, saying both were “very good” in attack.
“Two Rangers full-backs are very good going forward,” McManus said on his personal Twitter account.
Doubles from Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos and single strikes from Jason Cummings and Jamie Murphy left Ayr reeling after the hosts took an early lead following a mistake from Wes Foderingham.
Tavernier was named captain after in his 126th appearance for the Gers with Lee Wallace still missing through injury,
The win booked the Gers place in the quarter-finals and an Ibrox clash with Falkirk over the first weekend in March.
The Light Blues are looking to lift their first trophy in seven years and the Scottish Cup for the first time since Nacho Novo’s goal sealed a final win over the Bairns in 2009.
