Celtic ready for complete Reo Hatate U-turn after what he did vs Rangers
Reo Hatate has been facing an uncertain future at Celtic amid a season full of inconsistent performances.
The Japan international has been relied upon to provide creativity for the Bhoys since his arrival from Kawasaki Frontale in December 2021, but he has struggled to meet his own lofty standards so far this term.
The midfielder notched 14 goal involvements in the Scottish Premiership last term, but his influence has waned drastically this time around, as he has just two goals and two assists to his name so far.
Celtic’s transfer plans for this summer are up in the air at the moment amid the continued uncertainty surrounding their managerial situation, and Hatate has been among those fighting for his future in recent weeks.

Hatate’s frustrating performances have prompted plenty of criticism from Celtic fans so far this season, and many had become content with the idea of waving goodbye to him at the end of the campaign.
The 28-year-old remains under contract until the summer of 2028, but as of 5 March, he was expected to move on from Parkhead ahead of next term, according to the Glasgow Times.
However, Hatate’s displays in the pair of recent Old Firm clashes may have just been enough to see the Bhoys take a dramatic U-turn and decide that he is worthy of being part of their squad for 2026-27.
The technician scored a late equaliser for Celtic in the first of their two clashes with Rangers last week, and was hailed by Chris Sutton for the way that he changed the game after his half-time introduction.
Hatate was similarly influential during last Sunday’s Scottish Cup quarter-final, as he showcased his quality on the ball throughout the 120 minutes, before slotting in a perfect penalty during the shootout.
Those two performances have reminded everybody at Celtic Park exactly what he is capable of when he is at the top of his game, and they may have even saved his future with the club.
Hatate could survive ‘massive overhaul’ at Celtic
Football Insider revealed in February that Celtic’s next managerial appointment is likely to result in a “massive overhaul” in the squad for next season.
There is an expectation that the next incumbent in the dugout will want to make several alterations to the group before the 2026-27 campaign gets underway, and failure to secure the Scottish Premiership title could heighten the upheaval even further.
Hatate appeared to be a prime candidate for a potential sale at the end of the season, but he may well have done enough of late to save himself from the axe.
His contributions last week alone have potentially played a massive role in the Bhoys’ season, if they go on to claim a league and cup double.
