Celtic’s Roberto Martinez plan could be ruined after Crystal Palace next manager update

Celtic could now miss out on Roberto Martinez after his odds were slashed to become the next Crystal Palace manager.

The current Portugal National Team boss has been heavily linked to the Hoops since Wilfried Nancy’s departure.

However, despite Martin O’Neill being set to depart Celtic Park at the end of the season, no official move has been made for Martinez, nor any manager.

Now, the Hoops could be set to miss out on the former Everton boss, potentially ruining any plans.

Oddschecker on 6 March have confirmed that one of the UK’s leading bookmakers have slashed the odds of Martinez taking over at Crystal Palace down to 10/1, damaging Celtic’s manager hunt.

Roberto Martinez would be an excellent Celtic appointment

With Celtic in crisis, if Martinez were to be appointed in the summer, it would be an excellent move.

The manager has worked with some of the best players in football, and could end the summer with a World Cup trophy.

Therefore, it is in Celtic’s best interests to try to get something sorted as quickly as possible.

If Portugal were to do well at the World Cup, it could damage their hopes of appointing the manager, with other clubs likely to join the race.

Some progress could also help convince many players to stay at the Hoops, as it will show that there is a long-term plan in place, instead of the club being stuck in limbo.

Who is the favourite for the Crystal Palace job?

Luckily, while Football Insider has revealed that Martinez is a frontrunner for the Celtic job, this does not appear to be the case for Palace.

According to the bookies, he is only the joint-fifth favourite to land the role.

As it stands, Keane is the favourite at 13/8 after impressing abroad early in his management career.

Thomas Frank follows at 10/3, while Sean Dyche is also in the running at 4/1.

A Gareth Southgate return to Selhurst Park is not ruled out at 9/1 as he searches for his first job since leaving the England National Team.

A potential outsider is also Marco Silva at 10/1, with the Fulham manager yet to sort out his contract situation, with his deal set to expire in the summer.
