Everton in talks with top-tier defender as Newcastle bow out of race

Everton are in talks with 20-year-old Ajax centre-back Jairo Riedewald over a summer move but Newcastle have pulled out of the race, according to a reliable journalist.

Graeme Bailey, who writes for the Gambling Times as well as transfer news for the Sunday tabloids, claims that Riedewald is the subject of a three-way Premier League tussle, with Southampton and Crystal Palace also interested.

A report in the Mirror had claimed that Newcastle were also interested in the three-times Netherlands international ace, who is valued at £9million by Ajax.

However, Bailey now claims that Newcastle have “backed off” as they were only interested in an initial loan move for the defender.

It is also claimed that Crystal Palace are the favourites to land their man, because manager Frank De Boer has close links with the player from his time at Ajax.

Riedewald is a product of the Ajax youth system and has broken through to the senior team where he made 16 Eredivisie appearances last season.

In other Everton transfer news, the Toffees have received a blow in their pursuit of this PL 30-year-old as these Euro giants have joined the race for his signature.
