Fulham have agreed a deal to sign PSV Eindhoven defender Timo Baumgartl, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The 24-year-old has been identified as the man to solve the club's defensive problems with moves for numerous other targets having fallen through.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that the centre-half is set to travel to London for talks and a medical ahead of tomorrow night's transfer deadline.

Provided there are no complications, he will then put pen to paper to complete a loan move from PSV.

Baumgartl made 22 appearances for the Dutch side last season, including three starts in the Europa League group stages.

He still has four years left on his contract at the Philips Stadium having penned a five-year deal upon his £9million arrival from Stuttgart last summer.

Fulham boss Scott Parker is in search of defensive reinforcements before the window shuts tomorrow night after a difficult start to the Premier League season in which his side has conceded 11 goals in four games.

Football Insider has revealed the Cottagers interest in Barcelona's Jean-Clair Todibo, Crystal Palace’s Scott Dann, Wolves’ Ryan Bennett and Arsenal's Sokratis over the past few weeks.

While they have lost out to Premier League high-flyers Everton in the race to sign Norwich City's Ben Godfrey with the centre-half set to pen a five-year contract at Goodison Park.

Baumgartl looks set to become the club's ninth summer signing following the arrivals of Anthony Knockhaert, Ademola Lookman, Harrison Reed, Kenny Tete, Ola Aina, Mario Lemina, Atonee Robinson and Alphonse Areola.
