‘Huge concern’: Tottenham could sack Igor Tudor in new twist

Igor Tudor has had a dreadful start to life as the interim manager at Tottenham Hotspur and plans are already in place for him to move on at the end of the season.

The interim boss has suffered two defeats in his first two games, against Arsenal and Fulham, while his press conferences have offered little respite from the misery.

Tudor has not minced his words when discussing the club’s current situation, bemoaning their ever-growing injury list and slamming both performances so far.

As a result, former Tottenham scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Tudor will leave Spurs at the end of the season if not before then.

Tottenham are targeting the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, who remains their top target, but they are finding it difficult to assess with regelation still a “huge concern”.

Igor Tudor could be sacked by Tottenham

Brown told Football Insider on 2 March that Tudor’s comments show Tottenham will be relegated, with no belief in the side that they can turn their form around.

The interim manager’s appointment has done little to galvanise the players, and there is already a feeling behind the scenes that they got the decision wrong.

I was surprised when they brought Tudor in,” Brown told Football Insider.

“He’s got experience in Europe, but he’s never managed in the Premier League and never managed a club like Tottenham, it’s a different ball game entirely.

“I don’t think there’s any chance he stays on beyond the end of the season, with the results he’s had and the way he’s been speaking to the media.

“There’s even a possibility he could go before the end of the season if they keep losing games.

“Relegation is obviously a major concern and it changes the way they have to think about everything, it’s going to change which managers they can bring in as well.

“It’s difficult to see how they’re going to get out of this situation, especially with the manager in charge who hasn’t exactly given people hope.”

Who is on Tottenham’s managerial shortlist?

With Tudor now not expected to remain in place as the manager following his interim spell, Spurs are looking at a number of options to fill the vacancy.

The likes of Pochettino and Marco Silva are targets for Spurs and both could be available ahead of the summer when they will be desperately searching.

Pochettino is currently managing the USA and will lead them at the World Cup, but could be available after, while Silva is out of contract at Fulham.

The likes of Niko Kovac and Andoni Iraola have also been linked with the position as Tottenham remain keen to assess all of their options before making a move.

They will also have to wait on the outcome of the season, with relegation a very real possibility which would put an end to any ambitious plans.
